Bend of Ivy Lodge Mountain Retreats and Conferences

2006 Public Workshops and Retreats

Most retreats at the Lodge are private groups: weddings, church groups, and organizational retreats. We do host a number of events each year that are open to the public. We offer a list at this site; please bookmark this page and check back with us to see what is coming up. This is a partial listing; as new events are booked, and leaders send their descriptions, we'll post them here. Please contact the retreat organizer directly for cost, more information, and registration. You may see last year's events here... some of these people will be returning later in 2006 and haven't yet booked; you may contact them directly to see if they're returning.

March 24-27, 2006 Somatic Experiencing Practitioner's Training: Intermediate Class I Dr. Peter Levine's work has been on the front line of the new body-mind therapies. It is an instinctual and biologically based modality that accesses stored energies of flight-fight-freeze without overcharging the system or re-traumatizing an individual. It provides relief and healing for those suffering from PTSD, as well as many other emotional and physical difficulties, returning the body to flow. The Psychotherapy Networker Magazine (July/August 2004) issue on the new somatic psychotherapies lists SE as a primary modality for treating trauma. Trained SE Practitioners are on the ground in Asia helping with post-tsunami trauma relief.

Bend of Ivy Lodge is proud to host this important work. The intermediate level will take place over three four-day weekends, and will be taught by Ariel Giarretto. Ariel has traveled worldwide with Peter Levine, gives frequent seminars to hospital staff, and worked at Esalen Institute for 11 years. For general information about SE, please see http://www.traumahealing.com, or contact Patti Elledge at 828-273-0323 or email patelledge@hotmail.com

May 4-7, 2006 The Tantric Path for Men Tantra is a path to awaken the mind, heart, and body. Classical Tantra, however, is a rich philosophy concerned with the masculine and feminine energies that dwell within each of us, and the ways in which they express the many and varied forms of the divine. Join Rudy Ballentine in an intensive exploration of the impulses and habits which can hold us back, and the powerful energies which can feed our creativity, strengthen our relationships, and connect us to the wider universe. Through yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, and experiential exercises, Rudy will provide a safe and fun space for individuals to explore and experiment with channeling life force through the body's chakras, or centers of power, which begin at the base of the spine and continue to the top of the head. For gay and bi men. Contact David Frechter at info@spiritjourneys.com or 828-258-8880 for more information, or link to the Spirit Journeys website.

August 26- Sept. 1, 2006 Advanced Training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy: The Blessing of Insecurity with Mike Boxhall  At its tenderest, Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a journey, taken in company, that facilitates a revelation of the Spiritual health that underlies all pathology. Why do we make an enemy of insecurity? We have no need to know what we should be doing to the patient. We need only to keep on emptying to the next revelation and receive the patient at a progressively deeper level. The course moves towards establishing a truly client centered therapy, where the Intelligence, the synergy in the joint practice does the work, not the Intellect of the practitioner.   “Let the Work do the Work.” Open to non-craniosacral therapists as well. For more details or to register contact Pat Donohue   919-834-1035 or  patdonohue@nc.rr.com.

September 14-17, 2005 The Way of Passion: The Direct Path with Andrew Harvey. Consider this fall retreat with mystic Andrew Harvey. Drawing from his recent books The Direct Path and The Sun at Midnight, Andrew Harvey will present his vision of embracing a personal spiritual path beyond religion or dogma. He considers the best and most exciting way towards self realization to be the direct path - a path of self-empowerment and self-awakening. A goal of this weekend is to dive deep into our souls and unlock the true nature of our beliefs, impressions, and feelings about spirituality. Through discussion and hands-on spiritual practices such as meditation, guided visualizations, chanting, ritual, and more, we will discover or reclaim the tools that support and enrich our personal spiritual course towards greater self actualization and connection with the Divine. For gays, lesbians, and bisexuals. Contact David Frechter at info@spiritjourneys.com or 828-258-8880 for more information, or link to the Spirit Journeys website.

November 10-12, 2006 MIND THE GAP: Unmasking The Power of Personal Stories. The acclaimed Circle Project brings its unique experiential learning processes to Western NC for this retreat on mining the meaning and power of our personal stories for deeper relationship, higher creativity, and fuller and more meaningful engagement in the world. We will explore these questions: How do we make meaning through story? What stories do we tell ourselves about others˜and about ourselves? How do those stories reduce us? How can we relinquish our roles in order to discover who we might be beneath the mask? We'll also explore finite and infinite games, and wicked problems and tame solutions.
