Who is the “us” at Bend of Ivy? To “us” the owners, the real “us” includes the many people who have lived and worked here, past and present, to make their unique contributions to this place. “Us” includes the four-legged pets and farm animals (read: dogs and goats!) that you may meet. It also includes all the wild creatures that, with good fortune, may cross your path or sing to you in the morning. Perhaps you could stretch a bit and include the koi fish, dragonflies, and fireflies. And, if you stretched even a bit beyond that, you may touch on the Sacredness of place. And if you touch on that, well… then you will have touched on Bend of Ivy.

There is something magical about this space, the land, and the buildings. All my students comment on the quiet tranquility that envelops them here. The support of a peaceful environment, friendly staff and beautiful grounds makes leading a retreat here almost effortless. If I were to imagine creating my own retreat center, with all the money in the world, I couldn't re-create Bend of Ivy Lodge.

With this much larger perspective in mind, it’s also true that as the stewards of this place, it is up to us to articulate what we see as important and what we intend, and then to enroll others into an understanding and appreciation of what the place is about. So, consistent with the purposes of the roles we have assumed, we speak as the stewards of this place. And, we speak with awareness of the others who have been mentioned above, and who also are part of your relationship with Bend of Ivy.

This section of the site provides some background on those who shape your experience here, and about the environmental commitment that is so important to us.
